They want to Pave Pebble Beach. The Last Wild Beach on Lake Michigan in Illinois. What is a Shoal? Did you know that Lake Michigan was once an Inland Sea? The coral reef over time became the Shoal, a bed of limestone that is millions of millions of years old. They want to pour in concrete and a landfill to protect Lake Shore Drive (DuSable Drive). This is a horrible plan... anyway, it is all in this lovely song.
The keyboard solo represents how it feels to swim out to the Shoal. The lower octave of the same solo represents the Shoal speaking to us while we are swimming... The Shoal is so healing. The Pebbles are her children...Our Shoal is asking us to Speak Up on Her Behalf…

About the Song….
The Chorus is comprised of slogans from the Morgan Shoal Advocacy Council. Special Thanks to Mak for her powerful contribution to the Bridge: Shoal =Soul, Pebble = People, Every Pebble Matters. Incredible collaboration here. Loving This!!
The Drums…. All have percussion instruments… I played a Nyabinghi-ish Rythm on a Djembe, a Pebbke Beach Binghi rhythm on a Pogo Lab drum , straight nyabunghi on a Turtle Island drum from Hopiland. Sistrum and cymbal.
While listening to this amazing song, now in my top 5 fav songs by the artist (!), I hear the influences of sooooooo many Reggae Greats. This song is a tribute to the Golden Years Of Reggae! Not going to break it down line by line here, perhaps in a blog post someday! I hear Peter Tosh, Sister Carol, the Wailers, Bob Marley, ASWAD, Steel Pulse, Burning Spear, Misty In Roots, Culture, Abyssinians. even hear Althea & Donna. This song is so deeply inspired on so many levels. I am deeply moved by my own song and it feels amazing. I am forever grateful to Reggae Mudic for grabbing me by my heart and pulling me out of a lifetime of darkness & ignorance. Into the Light of Self Knowledge, Roots & Culture. One Love!
